Review: Paper Mate Plant-A-Pen

School is starting up this week and we have been on the hunt for our supplies. Wyatt is now questioning what we are buying, to make sure that is a green product. I guess that week of zoo camp really motivated him to become more aware of his actions, which is awesome to witness. Thanks to the new biodegradable line of products available from
Paper Mate, I can buy his pens and pencils and keep his conscious clean.

Here is some information about Paper Mate and their Biodegradable line from their site:  Paper Mate, with its recognizable two hearts logo, has been providing progressive, performance-driven pens, pencils and correction products for more than 50 years. Paper Mate is part of the family of brands owned by Sanford, a leading manufacturer and marketer of writing instruments and art materials.  Today, Paper Mate is introducing a wide range of leading edge, new products that meet the demands of today’s consumers. Our trusted quality biodegradable lineup — made from corn-based material — leaves little behind but great writing. The entire refill holder & majority of pen & pencil components biodegrade in soil/home compost in about a year. See disassembly instructions on packaging.

Paper Mate was nice enough to send me a few samples of their biodegradable line to try.  The pens write smoothly and are durable.  I even tried to bend the pen to see if it was flexible, and it is definitely not!  These products seem to offer the best of both worlds, with giving the user a quality pen or pencil and then it stays out of our landfills.  I can’t wait to let Wyatt plant one of these in our yard, and then he can check on it every few months.

If you are out shopping for school supplies, keep an eye out for Paper Mate’s new biodegradable line.  After they run out of ink, your kids can have a blast planting them in your yard.  Please note that not the whole pen will degrade, only the housing, and it will take about a year to do so in your home compost.

To stay informed of all the new products being released by Paper Mate, be sure to fan them on facebook.
