Wyatt is my bug man. He is fascinated by bugs of all shapes, sizes and colors. Therefore, it was no surprise that when he learned about HEXBUGS, he wanted to collect them all. Lucky for him, we were asked to host a HEXBUG nano party, where we were able to share and play with plenty of bugs with his friends.
HEXBUGS are micro robotic creatures that come in 5 designs, which include: original, inchworm, crab, ant, and nano. The nano is the newest addition to the HEXBUG family and behaves like a real bug! And, each nano bug comes with a unique code that you can register online to help you track your collection. This code will also allow you to play games online and learn about real science.
Since we were party hosts, we received nano bugs, track, a habitat set, and a bridge battle set. I unpacked the box and let my party guests choose their bugs. We then set up some track and let the kids start to see what the bugs would do. After much giggling and smack talking about whose bug is the best, they decided to race to see whose bug really was the smartest. They really enjoyed racing their bugs and touching the adults with them, to see if we would freak.LOL Here is a picture of the race in action:
I made gummy worms in pudding for a “bug style dessert” and whoever had a worm in their dish got to chose an extra bug. The kids were fighting over the worms. Here is a picture of our bug infested dessert:
HEXBUGS are recommeded for kids ages 3 and up, but I found that kids up to age 10 were entertained. The nano bugs retail for $9.99 and can be purchased online from hexbug.com or in stores at Toys R Us, Target, or Radio Shack. All bugs come with batteries and you can purchase replacement batteries. Most track sets come with at least one bug to help you get started. With some sets retailing for under $20, these bugs make a great gift for any boy! Although the girls at my party also thought that these bugs were pretty cool, especially the pink ones!
