In case you haven’t heard, Bing is helping out schools in a BIG way, with their contest “Our School Needs”! It began with schools entering the contest, where the prizes are as follows: the school with the most overall votes will win the $100,000 grand prize. The school with the most votes in each category (K-6, 7-9, 10-12) will win $50,000!
Well, Bing has now decided on their 15 finalists and it is time for you to vote!! You can vote up to 5 times each day and voting will end on November 7th, so time is limited. Click Here to access the finalists videos and vote for your favorite. These schools have asked for all kinds of help, from band equipment to a new library.
I will admit that I had a hard time choosing a favorite, but since I am from New Orleans, I have to go with the James Singletary Charter School for my vote! Here is an excerpt from their entry: Following the national trend, all music and art enrichment programs were cut from JMS in favor of longer school days with increased math and reading instruction. While deepening math and reading skills is essential, research has shown that children achieve at higher levels when music and art education is included curriculum.
When Bing kicked off this project, they did so by having Josh Groban visit a local middle school in Queens, NY to drop off brand new musical instruments and participate in chorus. Here is a picture from that event.
In addition to their “Our School Needs” Contest, Bing is giving away up to $900,000 to schools in need through DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit website where public school teachers can post classroom projects that need funding. Be one of the first 30,000 to vote for your favorite finalists each day and receive a $3 donation code to redeem for the classroom project of your choice!
Remember, voting will end on November 7th, so vote now and vote often! It only takes a minute and you could be helping a school in need.
