Review: Disney’s The Lion King at Mandalay Bay

I am a huge fan of Disney movies and have always enjoyed going to Broadway shows, which is why I was thrilled to have a chance to see The Lion King at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Here is some information about Disney’s The Lion King at Mandalay Bay from their site: The Las Vegas production of THE LION KING, now in its second year at Mandalay Bay, is one of the most popular shows on the Strip, and should not be missed. Based on the 1994 Disney animated film, THE LION KING continues to reign as one of the most popular shows on Broadway and around the world. The global phenomenon is the winner of more than 70 major awards worldwide, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and the Grammy for Best Musical Show Album.

My mom and I were lucky enough to catch the show and came out in awe! The actors, the stage, the costumes, and the music were all phenomenal. The little kids that played young Simba and Nala were amazing. I loved how the stage continued to change shape with the scenes and the interaction of the actors throughout the theatre.

I was interested to see how the actors were going to play animals, but in costume, they just flowed into their parts. The costumes were nothing that I expected, but they portrayed enough animal that they looked natural. The hyenas blew me away with their performance and how they remained in their crouched positions.

It is so hard to not give too much away about the show, but I will say that I was happy to see that the story line followed the movie exactly. There were a few added songs, which was good, but no added plot or theme.

If you are headed to Las Vegas, I would highly recommend seeing The Lion King. This could definitely be a Vegas  family outing.  Ticket prices start at $64 and can be purchased online from The Mandalay Bay.
