Wyatt, my seven year old, loves science. Anything to do with space, including planets, stars, and black holes, totally fascinate him! He reads books and watches TV programs to learn more, but nothing is as much fun as a hands on experience. He recently go that when we visited the U.S. Space & Rocket Center located in Huntsville, AL.
Here is some information about the U.S. Space & Rocket Center from their site: The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is recognized as one of the most comprehensive U.S. manned space flight hardware museums in the world. Our facilities include Spacedome Theater, Rocket Park, the Education Training Center, which houses NASA’s Educator Resource Center, and more! Visitors to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will experience Huntsville’s role in the making of the moon rocket, the space race, the Apollo missions, learn about the Space Shuttle program, the International Space Station and NASA’s future missions. Visitors may trace the evolution of humankind’s ventures into space and watch as tomorrow’s potential engineers, scientists and astronauts train in one of the Space Camp or Aviation Challenge Programs.
I had visited the Space Center as a child, but did not remember much, other than the monkey, Mrs. Baker. My husband and I were shocked to learn so much about the space program in one day and the kids had a blast! Be prepared for a full day of fun and rides when you plan your visit. We spent almost a full day and did not even see a movie. There are three rides for adults and one for the little kids, plus an outdoor play area for little ones, under five. There was also a play area located inside, which the kids really enjoyed. I think their favorite thing was sitting in a pod that had switches they could flip and play with. Wyatt is already asking if he is old enough for Space Camp!LOL Check out our pictures from this fun adveture!
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center is located in Huntsville, AL and open for visitors seven days a week from 9:00am-5:00pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children over 3. All rides are included in the admission price, but the IMAX movies are an additional cost. Tickets are available online, along with movie schedules, at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center ticket link. Space and Aviation Camp run year round and they even have a family camp available!
