Top Tips for Homeowners to Improve Energy Efficiency

This post is brought to you by Tanya.

With the summer months upon us and the weather (hopefully) improving, now would be a perfect time to take a look at your energy efficiency and to take a look at what home improvements can be done to improve it. Even with our unpredictable weather, the winter months are never pleasant, making the summer an ideal opportunity to get your home sorted.Of course, modern homes are incredibly energy efficient, with many improvements already being added during the building process to ensure that your energy bills are pleasing as well as doing their bit for the environment. Older homes, however, need a little help and with plenty of options to improve energy efficiency from British Gas, your home is in the right hands.Boilers are notorious for being a drain on energy resources and the older ones are the worst culprits. Replacing your boiler may be an expense but it’s totally worth it and with British Gas offering some great, affordable options, you can make an investment feasibly. If you don’t have the finances to replace your boiler right now, make sure you do invest in an annual service and keep on top of any maintenance issues to prolong the life of your boiler as much as possible.

Double glazing is another contender in the green energy stakes. While it is one of the most expensive improvements, the investment is incredible. You could save up to £165 a year with double glazing – it’s definitely something to consider if you’re planning on staying in your current home long enough to reap the rewards.

Being green doesn’t have to cost the Earth either. The smallest changes can help the environmentand improve your energy efficiency, such as replacing the light bulbs in your home with efficient ones, or turning your thermostat down by 1 degree. Plus, with the Green Deal government initiative available too, you have no excuse!
