Dreaming of being a hero

This post is brought to you by Tanya K.

Walter Mitty – a clerk with deep dreams. Timid and inconspicuous, our hero works at a local top magazine. He works as a photojournalist, although dreams of a life full of adventure, therefore begins to live dreams in reality. He is a dreamer at the bottom of his heart who dreams of heroic deeds and exciting adventures. Is he ready to translate his desires into reality? Home, work, home and same things once more –the lead character escapes this routine cycle only by fantasizing about the worlds in which he is not just an employee of the “LIFE” magazine, but one of those heroes published on the cover of the mag: musician, athlete or any bright personality.

Walter Mitty’s dreams become reality when he meets a mysterious stranger with a black book containing the secrets of wondrous treasures being searched by hundreds of people around the world. There’s hardly a dreamer ready to miss this adventure, and Walter is no exception too. Modest office worker, Walter Mitty often dreams of exciting adventures imagining him in the place of characters of his favorite fiction books. One day Walter has a chance to express his inner world and make a fascinating journey. However, faced with many challenges, he has to admit that being a hero in reality can be much more complicated. Will the upcoming adventure scare the humble employee of a photo magazine? One can find this question in The Secret life of Walter Mitty trailer. Do not be afraid to plunge into the unknown, because the secret life of Walter Mitty is a good example of this statement.

The basis of the movie directed by Ben Stiller is taken from James Thurber’s story which was published in the late 30-ies of XX century. Since then, the film adaptation of Stiller has become the second attempt to implement this story on the screen. By the way, Ben Stiller has long wanted to make a drama and concentrate on filming as a director.

Such an unobtrusive and very touching story is the culmination of a dream of many people we meet on the street involuntarily every day (possibly, all of us are dreamers who are stuck in reality). That is why Thurber’s short story “lives” for almost 100 years without losing its relevance. Let’s hope that the film adaptation by Stiller reaches at least half of the success of its origin.
