I will never forget that first night I spent in the hospital after having Wyatt. I was exhausted, pumped full of anti-nausea medicine, and scared! If is wasn’t for a super nice and informative nurse, I am sure my stay would have been much worse. She gave me some of the best advice, including:
- Be sure to get up and walk around, it will help you from getting stiff.
- Ask for the gas pills. I had a section and didn’t even think about all the air that had entered my body.
- Let us take care of the baby and you get some sleep! We will bring him back when he is hungry.
- Stay in the hospital the extra night, because your body needs to heal.
All of this advice was simple, but she put me at ease and it really helped me! I was up and walking as soon as they would let me. And, I definitely needed the sleep and extra day of rest. My husband and I always joke now that we can’t believe they just sent us home with this little baby, like we knew what we were doing.
Fast forward almost 11 years and we have a big healthy 11 year old, so I guess we passed. But, as you can see those nurses words stayed with me and it still feels like yesterday that she was putting a nervous new momma at ease.
