My little engineer, Devin, is a true train addict! He LOVES anything and EVERYTHING train-related. This includes TV shows.
That being said, you can imagine how delighted he was to check out the new Chuggington: The Chugger Championship DVD. The Chuggington stories center around Koko, Wilson, and Brewster … three ‘trainees’ learning how to be helpful and responsible diesels. And, many of the episodes center around competitions and balancing responsibility while having fun.
This DVD included the following episodes:
The Chugger Championship – This is the story of the Annual race between all of the engines in the yard. It has a competitive theme and does show a bit of teasing about who is going to win. Koko is determined to be the winner, not because she was the fastest, but because she helped Wilson.
Helpful Hodge – Koko and Hodge compete to see who can do the most job in one day … and Hodge wins!
Cool Wilson – Frostini, the ‘ice cream train’, chooses who will be his ice cream helper. He chooses Wilson because he helped Pete, an old steam engine, who was overheating in the hot summer sun. This was Devin’s favorite episode. When asked why this one was his favorite he replied, “Because I like ice cream!” Sounds like a reasonable decision-making process to me!
Brewster’s Hobby – Brewster teaches Wilson about ‘Peoplespotting’ … or observing people doing silly things. They end up spending too much time goofing off instead of doing their work.
Wake Up Wilson – Koko and Wilson challenge each other to see who can stay awake the longest. Wilson is so tired the next day that he almost doesn’t get the mail delivered in time!
Koko Pulls It Off – The trainees must perform a ‘Passenger Test’ to see if they are ready to pull passenger cars.
Anchor Bay Entertainment was nice enough to send my family a copy of The Chugger Championship to review. Devin’s favorite episode was Cool Wilson. When asked why this one was his favorite he replied, “Because I like ice cream!” Sounds like a reasonable decision-making process to me! The theme song is very cute and quite catchy. I even caught him singing it for a few days after we watched the shows.
The Chugger Championship has a running time of 61 minutes and is designed for kids ages 2-7 and their families. This DVD retails for $16.99 and can be purchased now from amazon.com.
