Our house has been way lucky when it comes to lice, but if you are like me, you cringe every time one of those notices come home from school. That night I will comb through the little bit of hair that my boys have and freak over every speck I find. Explaining to them what I am doing seems to be just as taxing, usually beginning with the question “Mom, why are you digging in my hair?” and “What is a head bug?”. Well, my days of explaining are over, thanks to author David Shannon, who has decided to come to my rescue with his newest book “Bugs in My Hair”.
Scholastic was nice enough to send my family a copy of this book to review. Since, my boys are already fans of David Shannon, I knew this book would be right up their alley! Blake was super excited to read about bugs. I must admit that Blake was a little confused on why bugs want to live in hair, but the book did a great job of explaining things. It went through how the bugs get in your hair all the way to which methods can be used to remove them. This book put a cute spin on a really bad situation and was very informative. Both boys enjoyed this book and had a better understanding about parasites afterwards.
To learn more about other great books, by David Shannon, you can check out his Scholastic Page. “No, David” is one of my boys’ all time favorite books and they just giggle away still whenever we read it to them.
“Bugs in My Hair” is available for purchase now at Barnes and Nobles, WalMart, and Amazon.com. This book is recommended for kids ages 4-8 and retails for $17.99. This would be a great addition to your school library or for a teacher’s collection.
Could you use some help explaining head bugs to your kids? Great, because Scholastic is offering one lucky WMN reader a chance to win a prize pack (pictured below) that includes: a Backyard Explorer Kit and a copy of the Bugs in my Hair book.
