We already started the school year and hopefully the kids are settling into their daily routine. It’s time to have a chat about our kids and their future. Every parent wishes the best for their children but many are inflexible in how they bring up their kids. As a mother of two little kids, I know the difficulties that are faced by parents these days. I am a strong believer in allowing our kids to flourish in their own way, by finding their own path. I let my kids experiment so that they can progress comfortably at their own pace. Giving your kids’ adequate playtime is vital and its importance has much merit in the scientific community. Kids are so creative and full of dreams.
As parents, we should help channel that into something positive. Hence, when my kids are playing with their playmobil sets and pretending to be an explorer, I fully encourage their imagination. They sometimes invite me to play with them as a character in their imaginary world. Usually, they want me to play “sheriff,” and I gladly oblige knowing how happy it makes them. Their faces light up when mommy comes to play with them. It’s also a great way to manage family time and to keep up with the kids.
I am thankful for things like playmobil, since it allows my family to bond over playtime or as my kids like to call it, “mobiltime.” Other parents should encourage playtime; it helps in enhancing your child’s creativity and imagination, which lays the building blocks for their future. It also helps kids to develop and refine their motor skills. Also, playtime is vital in the development of social skills; it allows kids to learn how to properly navigate the world.
Many parents think that learning can only occur through structured learning or academically. While that is a good way to learn, it’s not the only way. Many parents don’t realize that playtime or unstructured learning is just as important in the development of their kids. What seems like silly idea to you is in reality your kids experimenting with the world. This unstructured learning helps foster creativity and resourcefulness in your kids. Creativity is linked with higher level processes and is important in developing cognition. Incorporating time for playtime is important, as its benefits are too great to be passed up on!
