The holidays are full of running around, dining with friends and family, all of which result in our schedules being totally off. We usually eat dinner at home and as a family, but lately we have been eating out with family, and requires my kids to sit still a lot more than usual. We have been combating this with some super fun Uncle John’s Placemats!
Uncle John’s Riddle Me Timbers! and Magic Cupcake Placemats, recommended for kids ages 6 and up, these books are sure to keep your little ones entertained. Each cleverly themed tear-off sheet in these 36-page placemat pads is filled with brain-building activities: a “Ship Shape” puzzler, a “Fairy Pie” maze, brainteasers, jokes, and weird facts, noodle-while-you-doodle activities and even Polly-Wanna-Doku and Wand-Doku (Sudoku with pictures!).
My boys have had a blast trying to figure out the puzzles and learning some fun facts. I will say that a lot of the puzzles seemed advanced for my six year old and they definitely keep my 10 year old challenged. The boys didn’t even think the Magic Cupcake Placemats were girly and were happy to do both.
These books retail for around $11 each, which make them a great price for gift giving.
Another Uncle John title that we got to check out was Uncle John’s Totally Quacked Bathroom Reader, which is totally up my 10 year old’s alley. This book is 288 pages packed with strange science, weird news, obscure history, odd sports, and the interesting origins of everyday things. Special to this edition: amazing animal quack-ups, history’s biggest quacks, ducky weather, fine feathered friends, quacky fashion, and things that are “Just Ducky” (which could mean really good or…soaking wet).
