The older I get, the more I realize that my family is also aging. While I have been blessed with everyone staying healthy, I know that there will come a time when I will have some hard decisions to make about whether I am able to provide the care necessary for my mom or will I have to rely on home heath care.
These are hard decisions on any family and they can take a toll on relationships, both mentally and financially. When my grandmother was ill, my mother was lucky enough to be able to manage taking care of her with a little help from home health. They would come in and see to her medical needs, which took a lot of worry off my mom’s mind.
I know that when the time comes, my mother would be more comfortable with in home care and I hope to provide her with that as long as possible. It always helps me to feel better when I am at home and in my surroundings and I think she feels the same. Living close to my mom helps me to check in on her, but what if I lived in another city or state. Just knowing that someone was looking after her and seeing her daily would definitely make things easier.
And, did you know that you can also get companion care for a family member? This service is perfect if your loved one needs assistance that is non-medical, such as meal preparation, errands, reminders, and more.
Since I am a constant worrier, these thoughts cross my mind as the days pass into years and I see my loved ones slowing down and needing more assistance. We are not always in the position to fully care for our parents, but I am glad to know that there are so many options out there to assist me when the time comes.
