My Day at the Orchard with Musselman’s

My family loves applesauce and if you frequent my site, you know the we are huge fans of Musselman’s.  So, when they invited me to Pennsylvania to tour one of their apple orchards and their processing plant, I was super excited!!

Below is a slide show that details my adventure with Musselmans.

After learning all about the Musselman’s brand, I am even more of a fan than before!  Did you know that Musselman’s is a grower owned cooperative?  This means that their apple growers own the company and all the apples used at Musselman’s come from within the United States!!

Since apple season starts in August and ends in late November, Musselman’s stores their apples in cold storage at 34 degrees and 2% oxygen to keep their apples from aging.  This allows them to produce applesauce year round and keep the product on the grocery shelves as fresh as possible.

I was impressed by how concerned Musselman’s was with keeping their carbon footprint small.  They use solar panels to supply energy to their processing plant, they conserve water whenever possible and they use as much of the apple in their process as they can to reduce waste.

I was joined on this trip, and had a blast with, my fellow bloggers Cecilia (Cool Baby Kid), Amie (The Healthy Apple), Sammie (Sammie’s Blog of Life), Amanda (The Nutritionist Reviews), Kelly (Star Impulse), Heather (Then Heather Said),  Jennifer (Thrifty Girl), and Haley (Love, Life, Family and then Some).  The tastiest part of this trip was being introduced to the Honey Crisp Apple, which I had never tried.  I am now on the look out for these in New Orleans and have not had any luck.LOL

If you have any questions about Musselman’s as a company or their products, feel free to leave them below and I will get you an answer.  If you would like to learn more about Musselman’s, be sure to follow them on Twitter or become their fan on Facebook.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS REVIEW IS MY OPINION. THANK YOU TO MUSSELMAN’S FOR SUPPLYING TRAVEL, LODGING, AND MEALS FOR THIS TRIP.
