I LOVE chocolate, but have yet to find a healthy version that would be considered acceptable for breakfast. That was until I was introduced to Nutella, which is a hazelnut/cocoa spread.
For those of you who are not familiar with Nutella, here is some information about the product from their site: Nutella is a tasty hazelnut spread that contains quality ingredients such as skim milk and a hint of cocoa. Nutella spread on whole wheat bread, or any multigrain product, with orange juice or skim milk is a good combination for a balanced breakfast that the entire family will enjoy. Nutella contains no artificial colors or preservatives.
I had the chance to host a mommy party for Nutella where I got to treat my friends to some yummy breakfast options. I chose to prepare Nutella Waffles and Nutella Wraps, which both contained fruit and whole grains. Both were easy to prepare and I had most of the ingredients already in my pantry. I think most moms really liked the waffles and all said they would fix them for their kids. I think the flavor of the waffles was better, because it was prepared with fresh fruit and the wraps with dried fruit.
One guest was thrilled that she could now have Nutella for breakfast, when she usually eats it by the spoonful for dessert. Another mom thought the waffles were really good and that her kids would excited try them. All my guests really liked the texture and flavor of Nutella.
Both my kids loved the waffles and have since eaten them for breakfast. Wyatt even tried Nutella on his banana bread for breakfast this morning and declared it “YUMMY’! I think Nutella has now become a staple in our pantry.
Here is the recipe for the Nutella Waffles, which also makes a great finger food if cut into triangles:
1) Toast 2 whole grain waffles.
2) Spread Nutella on one waffle.
3) Sprinkle with chopped fresh berries and coconut.
4) Top with second waffle.
How easy was that. Here is a picture of what my serving platter looked like.
If you have been looking for new breakfast options in your house, then try using Nutella in your recipes. Nutella can be found at grocery stores and mass retailers nationwide. At my grocery store, it is in the aisle with the peanut butter.
