The minute they started to advertise the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid on film, my nephew started talking about going to see it at the movies. What began as a popular book series is now a major motion picture and all the talk among young boys. And, since the movie was just released to DVD, I was able to secure a copy for my nephew for his birthday.
Here is the synopsis of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Based on the best-selling illustrated novel by Jeff Kinney, the family comedy Diary of a Wimpy Kid chronicles the adventures of wisecracking pre-teen Greg Heffley, who must somehow survive the scariest time of anyone’s life….middle school. Convinced it’s the “dumbest idea ever invented,” Heffley considers junior high school a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment of the cafeteria floor and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties that he must overcome to be popular. His diary- or “journal”- chronicles his thoughts, tales of family trials and tribulations, and (would be) schoolyard triumphs.
20th Century Fox was nice enough to send my family a copy of Diary of a Wimpy Kid on DVD to review. I was not sure it Wyatt was going to understand all the was happening, but he definitely got the gist. Here was his explantation of the movie: “The movie was about a boy who was going to middle school and the stuff he did on the black-top wiht cheese and all.” Wyatt thought it was super funny, especially the “zoo-wee mama” part, which included cartoon people and an acid puddle, according to him. My nephew, who just turned 10, thinks this is the funniest movie ever! I think it is great that there is a new movie out, which seems geared to young boys!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is available for purchase now on Blu-Ray and DVD from Amazon.com. It has a running time of 94 minutes and is rated-PG.
The DVD version retails for $29.99 and the Blu-Ray version retails for $39,99.
