One of my families favorite things to do together is curl up on the couch and watch a movie. But lately, we have had a hard time finding movies that will entertain all of us, with still being appropriate for Wyatt. Have you tried to find a PG movie lately? This is why I was thrilled when I saw the trailer for Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief, which is a novel turned movie that brings the modern and mythical worlds together for an action-packed family film, and saw that it was rated PG. I have always loved mythology and was excited that Wyatt would get to learn about it in such a cool way.
Here is some information about Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief : The film follows trouble-prone Percy Jackson who finds himself having problems in high school… but that’s the least of his challenges. It’s the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus have walked out of the pages of his Greek mythology texts and into his life, and they’re not happy – Zeus’ lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Learning he is the son of Poseidon, the young teen finds himself caught between angry and battling gods, and embarks on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.
20th Century Fox was nice enough to send my family a copy of Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief on DVD to review. Hubby and I watched it first and both thought it was really good. I was completely entertained, and am now interested in reading the books. Then we settled down to watch it with Wyatt, who also really enjoyed the movie. His favorite part was Medusa, since he has a thing for snakes, but he understood the movie and asked a lot of questions about the different characters. He has asked to watch it again since the first time and I think that he will continue to do so. I must admit that Percy is really cute, and makes watching all the more fun for me, even though I am probably old enough to be his mom!LOL
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief is rated PG and has a running time of 120 minutes. It is available now on Blu-Ray and DVD. Blu-ray includes over an hour of special features, 10 deleted scenes, a “Secrets of the Gods” featurette, an “On Set” with Brandon T. Jackson, and much more. The Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy will be available for the suggested retail price of $39.99. The standard DVD includes five deleted scenes, “Bringing The Book To Life” featurette and a “Discover Your Powers” quiz. The standard DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.98. Both options can be purchased from Amazon.com.
