Summer is finally upon us! Slap on the sunscreen and get the kids outside for a day of fun. Whatever your child loves to do, we have plenty of ways to get your child off the sofa and into the great outdoors.
Go on a scavenger hunt
There’s no better way to get the family outdoors than a scavenger hunt out there in Mother Nature. Write up a quick list of common items found in the great outdoors, such as birds or flowers then head out to your favourite park or wild area. Work as a family or in small teams to see who can find all of the items first.
Have a picnic
Why not try packing up your picnic basket with lots of mouth-watering treats and head to your favourite park? Find a cosy corner and dine alfresco style in the great outdoors. This is a great way to make use of the good weather and keeps the little ones full of energy. Check out this Tesco buying guide for hamper ideas.
Build an obstacle course
Why not make use of all those old boxes and unused items clogging up your garage and stage an obstacle course for the whole family. Grab a stopwatch and see who can make it through the fastest.
Have a water balloon fight
Don’t let the hot weather keep you indoors. If you’re looking for a way to cool down in the beating sun, why not try filling up some water balloons and having the water fight of the century.
Fly kites
It’s all too easy to hide away indoors when the winds pick up. Instead of retreating back to the safety of the sofa, why not wrap up warm and brave the great outdoors. Windy days are perfect for kite flying, which is the perfect way to get the family together! Dig out your old kite and head for the nearest park. You could even get together and make a new one with the family!
Take a night hike
It’s summertime! Don’t be afraid to push back curfew and live life on the edge. Grab some flashlights and take a night hike, either around your local park or nature reserve. Listen carefully for all of the sounds you’ll only hear at night, and keep an eye out for any night critters. Younger children will enjoy seeing the great outdoors in a new light, whilst adults will love the peace and quiet that comes with relaxing under the stars.
These inspiring outdoor activities are guaranteed to keep the whole family happy without burning a hole in your pocket. So, next time the sun starts shining, turn off the TV and head outdoors for a summertime adventure!
