So the first time you have a baby, it is all about the stuff. Registering is FUN! It is way more about the design and creating your mom style and sometimes about the functionality. But face it, you aren’t really sure what you need in functionality because you have never had a baby before.
Well as I am staring in the face at the transition from one to two kids, I am all about the functionality. With my first kiddo I had a sound only baby monitor. It did it’s job but the video is less needed when they are an infant and more needed when they are at that stage between infant and toddler. You really need the video when you are sleep training and are too scared to open the door to see if they are sleeping or just being quiet. Video would also be very helpful as your little one grow and starts scaling the side of the crib. Oh, and for sure needed after you move to a toddler bed. So, in my experience video is needed but not so much for the first month or so when they barely move.
So with all of that said, I need to replace my video only monitor with video now that two little ones will need that watchful eye. But since functionality rules, I have had the opportunity to test out the Motorola MBP36S Digital Video Baby Monitor with 3.5” Diagonal Color Screen. Here are my top three favorites about this product:
- It is expandable. Which means if you do get this monitor for your first bundle of joy, you can easily add additional cameras to it. Or if you have your child nap in one room and sleep in another you can set up two cameras with out having to rearrange them daily.
- If you are using it for two kids, you can see both kids on the monitor at the SAME time.
- It moves! No not across the room, but it does pan, tilt and zoom which is excellent for when your child is mobile and you are trying to see what is going on. Add in the feature that you can talk through the monitor to say things like, “lay down” or “get back in your bed” means that I can save a trip up the stairs.
Other tidbits that are a plus is that it tells you when you are out of range, so if you want to go in the backyard to grill dinner with the hubby, you know for sure if you are in range if your baby starts to stir. And, I love volume control. Because I know we will get to the sleep training stage sooner than later, and turning down the fussing as she learns to soothe herself means that I will shed just a few less tears in the painful process. I am really glad that I had the opportunity to test the product and I am looking forward to getting to use it as we welcome baby number 2!
The Motorola MBP36S Digital Video Baby Monitor retails for around $240.00 and is available for purchase at Target.
